Alliance Française de Napa

About Us

The Alliance Française of Napa is part of an international cultural non-profit association which promotes French language and culture throughout the world. It is centered in Paris; the American headquarters is in Chicago. The Napa chapter was formed in 1987. Our goal is to share the spirit and culture of French-speaking countries through language courses, social activities and community outreach. People of all ages come to the Alliance to improve their language skills, to participate in French cultural activities and/or to connect with people speaking their native tongue... and we invite you to join us. It is not necessary to be a French speaker or student, just to want to participate in French culture here in Napa.

The Napa Alliance sponsors a Bastille Day Picnic each July. Members and friends share delicious food and wine and a game or two of pétanque. Winter holidays are celebrated in January, usually with a dinner. Other events throughout the year include conferences on wine, art and literature as well as French films and a special evening of crêpes–French-style pancakes–to share with family and friends. French language classes are offered for beginner, intermediate and advanced students. Classes meet week-day evenings at the Napa Senior Center and are taught by native French speakers using the total immersion method. Class size is limited. Courses emphasize conversation and teach grammar and vocabulary as appropriate to a particular lesson. Please see CLASSES for more information and to register.
