What is the Alliance Française?

The Alliance Française of Napa is part of the world-wide organization centered in Paris to promote the French culture. The Napa branch of the Alliance has been at the heart of French cultural exchange in California’s wine country for the last 14 years. Our goal is to share the spirit and culture of France through language courses, social activities and community outreach. People of all ages come to the Alliance Française to improve their language skills, to participate in cultural activities and to connect with others speaking the French language.

Evening courses are offered in French conversation for beginner, intermediate and advanced students. All instructors are native French speakers, and teach in the total immersion method to encourage students to speak French from the very first lesson. Class size is limited to 12 students so each can receive individual attention in small study groups. Courses emphasize conversation and teach grammar and vocabulary as it relates to a particular lesson.

In addition, members have access to more than 1,000 volumes in our library. Assistance is available for translation and private tutoring.

A newsletter, Les Nouvelles de l'Alliance Française de Napa, is published monthly and sent to all members to inform them of upcoming events and activities, French classes and other items of interest in the community.

Members enjoy conversation dinners, luncheons, films, holiday celebrations, field trips and day tours. French singing. literary and scrabble groups meet monthly.

The Alliance Françasie de Napa will be pleased to share with you the richness of the French language and culture.
